Body 1

When the year was started, I was very not satisfied about taking Writing & Comp III.  Not only most of my peers didn’t have this course, but also required me to paid a high tuition on this. Even I was not satisfied with the course, but I did become more interested about it because of my teacher-Ms.Guarino. She promote her students to write a lot and stimulate student’s imagination about writing. The reason for her to do this is to prepare for the college, because she used to be a college teacher, and she said that a college student need to write about 1000 words essay in one night. This is why she want us to write a lot in our blog post and essay. She also want us to be more creative on our writing, she explained that writing is just like art. It need decorations to make it become vivid and interesting so that people would like to read it and enjoy it!

Bone Chiller!

During my junior high school year, I had watched three drama show so far. They are “Galileo”, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”, and “Bone Chiller”. All of them are really good and interesting, but if I really need to pick the best one for this year it will be “Bone Chiller”!

The reason why I will pick “Bone Chiller” as the best one I have watched during my junior is because of the contents and the background. The day when I went to watch the show is on Thursday with Zen. When we first walked into the Black Box theater, the first idea that came out from my mind was “Where am I right now?” It is because this is the first time I have ever seen Black Box theater like that. The theater was giving people a feeling of terror and uncomfortable, which is good because that is what the show want to present to the audiences. No only with the special and terror decorations, but the lighting also giving people a feeling of old fashion terror movie. If you could not think how it is looks like, just imagine you are watching a movie that made in 1980’s. This is why I will say the effect and background of the “Bone Chiller” is the best one in these three shows.

Beside the background and effect part, the contents is the part that most amazed me. “Bone Chiller” is a story that talk about the host of Travers’s family got murder by one unknown killer, but he did wrote a manuscripts with strange rebus about who is the killer and where did he hide his property. However, the rebus he wrote was very difficult to decode and interesting. Although the manuscripts is the biggest key point for the whole show, but while the family are decode the rebus. The murder is still in action, because people are still getting killed when they decode the manuscripts. This make the show into a situation where the family members need to figure out the manuscripts but also aware the murder hat is going on. This make the audience feel very tense and excited, because some of the sense in the show are consider as the sudden scare. Such as the part where the light got turn off, or when they found out one of the maid was hang in the closet...etc.

In a conclude, this show did a good job on giving people the feeling of the show. The content on how they solve the rebus and how did the rebus relate telling who is the murder also giving people a feeling of “How did they think of this!” Anyway, this is the best show I enjoy the most during my junior year, and I hope next year there could be more shows that are terror and mystery just like this one. Last but not least, for all the cast like work so hard in this show. Keep working and Thank you for present us such wonderful show!

Idea for my portfolio

The five blog post I'm going to use are:
-Bon appetite
-Bonjour! Je m'appele Gordon
-A Bientot
-Fighting
-See you again

The reason why I chooses these blog posts not only because they have less grammar errors than other, but all of these posts are meaningful for my challenge. After I read all of these blog posts, I come up with some idea about how should I revise my blog posts. The first thing I am going to look on is make sure there is no grammar error. After I done with that part, I will continued to work on my word choice. One major problem I found out from my blog post is that some of the words I use are not really effective. Due to my blog posts are more like a lesson, so it seems like i use a lot of simple word and make my posts become less attractive. That is why word choice will be one of the changes I'm going to focus on. Last but not least, the sentence sturcure. In my writing, I realized that whenever I have an idea, I will just keep writing and forget to stop. This make my blog posts looks like a note but not a post, so I would like to change some of my sentences structure in order to make the paragraph smooth and perfect. These three are the major problems I want to change while I working on my portfolio, but this is just a blue print for now. Because I might found out more mistakes that I could change in order my portfolio become better!

See you again!

Today, May 12th, is the last day of the 30-day challenge. It is hard for myself to believe that I did learn different sentences in different languages for 30 days! Between these challenges, there are some sentences that really make my day, and some sentences that really make me feel touching. For today’s lesson I will consider as touching one, not because of the sentences I’m going to teach, but this is the last blog of my 30-day challenge.

The first sentence I am going to teach is “시간 있어?”(Si-Gan-Is-Seo), which mean “Did you have time?” in English. For this sentence there is no polite way to say it, because no matter who you are talking to people will only use in this way. This is a really good sentence to learn because you will use this sentence during your whole life, no matter right now as a student or future as a worker. The importance of this sentence is same as saying “Hello!” to other people, because people use it all the time and never forget it. Think about it, would you ever forget how to say “How are you?” to your friends or family? I believe the answer for you will be no, so that is why “Did you have time?” are also importance that we must learn it!

After we learn how to ask other people “Did you have time?”, the next sentence I am going to teach is “Do you want to go with me?”. To say this in Korean it will be “나랑같이가고싶어? ”(Na-Lang-Ga-ti-Ga-Go-Sip-Eo), and this is same as the previous one, which didn't have the polite way to say it. Usually after we ask someone whether they have time or not, the next question we ask will be that “Did they want to go out wih me?” Some people might argue that beside this question people will say different sentence to respond this statement. However, what I am saying is happen in common situation, so it could also respond by other sentence. Anyway, right here I am just showing an easy sentence that can be use after we ask someone whether they have time or not. Let us continued the lesson!

For the next sentence it will be “잘가”(Jal-Ga), which mean “Goodbye” in English. If we want to say it in polite way, it will be “안넝히가세요”(An-Neong-Hi-Ga-Se-Yo). After we hang out with our friends, people will say “Goodbye” to each other. Not only to hope each other enjoy their rest of the day, but also telling them that they will see each other soon. One interesting fact about Korean is that they didn't really say “See you later” or “See you again” in their society. From my own point of view I thought that every languages in the world must can translate one sentence to another, which mean if I want to say something, I can say it in other language too.  However, it seems like it didn’t work in the Korean society!

Finally, here comes the last sentence for our 30-day challenge. The sentence is “사랑해" (Sa-Lang-Hae), which mean “I love you” in English. For this sentence we should be careful on the different gender, because male and female person will use different kind of sentence when they say “I love you.” The one I teach is the most common, it can be use for either male or female. Anyway, you might think why am I teaching this word. In Korean society, “I love you” doesn't only mean the feeling between the boyfriend and girlfriend. It can be also known as the feeling between friends. People use this sentence very often, no matter in their family or to their friends. That is why it is necessary for us to learn how to say “I love you.”

Well, I think that is all we need to learn for our last challenge day. Even though this is the last day of the 30-day challenge, in my mind it seems like today is the beginning of the challenge. During the challenge, perhaps I did change in some places, it could be personality, lifestyle, or habit...etc. The biggest change for myself probably is to discover a new habit. Before I start my challenge, I have never think about learn one new sentence in other language. Not only because of the limit of time, but also I didn't have the chance for me to do something like this. This is great and I really enjoy the process of learning new language. Maybe during the summer time, I will take some language class because I believe that is what I like!

I think it is time where we need to end our sentence challenge. I hope all of you guys have a good time during these sentence lesson. Maybe in you people point of view, this is the end of the 30-day challenge. It might be true, but I need to tell you that for me it is not. I will continued my own life challenge while the time goes on. It will not be a 30-day challenge, nor a one year challenge. It will be a challenge that I will keep doing it until the end of my life, and you will never know the topic of my life challenge. One person's life challenge goals could only found by themselves, it could be something really big or something really small. Try to discover your own life challenge goal, and you will found out you life could be more interesting than just having a normal life!

What are you...?

One more week than the 30-day challenge will be officially finish. I still remember at the first day of my challenge I was so excited and worry in the same time. I was excited about the oppurtunity to learn new languages, but I was also worry about the blog we need to write and the problem that might came among the challenge. However, I guess for those worry I am just thinking too much, because until now there still didn’t have big problem that will bother me when I do my challenge. Anyway, today we are also going to learn some new Korean sentences that will be useful in our daily life, so let us start it!

Today’s topic are all surround “What are….?” these kind of sentences. The first sentence is “너뭐먹냐?”(Neo-Mwo-Meog-Nya), it is mean “What are you eating?” in English. If we want to ask this in polite way it will be “무엇을 드시고 게십니까?” (Mu-Eos-Eul-Deu-Si-Go-Ge-Sib-Nik-Ka). It might looks very hard to pronounce, but after practice few time you will know the trick to speak it. As we all know that Korean food are very special and abundant. There are some foods that looks the same, but actually are totally different thing. That is why this sentence become very useful when you talk to Korean people, but I think this sentence could also be ask in English in Vdp. Every time when someone saw his friends order Dragon Buffet or Three Brothers Pizza, they always ask “What are you eating?” From there we can know that this is a sentence that is useful when you Vdp, and it is a fact!

After we know how to say “What are you eating?” we also need to know how to say “I am eating….” If we want to say “I am eating…” in Korean they will either say the food’s name or “......먹어”(Meog-Eo), which is food’s name + eat. One thing I learn from my Korean friend is that in Korean. Their grammar is very flexable, they didn’t have the subject verb agreement this kind of grammar rule. They could decide the order in the sentence, such as verb in front or subject in front...etc. This make me think that I should have start learning Korean earlier, because grammar is not the most important part in Korean. This mean it will be easier for the person like me who are really bad on grammar to learn.

For the last sentence I am going to teach is “너 뭐하냐?”(Neo-Mwo-Han-Ya), which mean “What are you doing?” in English. If we want to say in polite way it will be “지금 무엇을 하고 게십니까?”(Ji-Geum-Mu-Eos-Eul-Ha-Go-Ge-Sib-Nik-Ka). Like what I said previously in the French lesson, what are you doing is a sentence that will use very often. People almost use it everyday when they talk to their friend or family. This sentence could not only help people to start the conversation, and understand how each other life’s going. That is why we should also learn this sentence in Korean! Anyway, this is the last second post for our 30-day challenge. Next Tuesday will be the last episode for us to learn new language, so it will be a longer special lesson! Hope you enjoy the lesson today, and we will see you next Tuesday!

Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream

Have you heard about Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream? If you didn't know what it is, let me give you some basic information. According to the Wikipedia, Ben & Jerry’s is an American food products company that manufactures ice products, such as ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet...etc. This company was found at Waterbury, Vermont on 1978 that created by Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield(Wikipedia.org). From the information, Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream is a ice cream company that started almost 30 years ago, and because of the long history they have, now they have structure themselves into a good aspect for the future. Anyway, what is the point for us to know about Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream? The reason why we need to have some kind of information about Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream is because on the May 30th, “The Chairman of the Independent Board of Directors for Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream-Jeff Furman” will return Cheshire Academy to celebrate the 221st Commencement Address as an alumni of the school(Cheshireacademy.org). This mean for students who likes Ben & Jerry’s ice cream could have the opportunity to know where the company start their ice cream life.

For the person who is coming to Cheshire Academy to do the speech is Jeff Furman. “Jeff Furman, is famous for having written the first business plan to help Ben & Jerry secure a bank loan.”(Benandjerrysfoundation.org). From this statement we can know that he is the biggest pusher to make the Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream to start. I didn't mean the creators are not important for the company, but the rule that Jeff played in the company is having the same level as Ben and Jerry-the creators of the company. However, his job’s during that time is not only thinking about the starting plan for the company. According to the foundation, “He played a key role in helping the company think about innovation in its social mission, such as with Partnerships, scoop shops operated by non-profits”(Benandjerrysfoundation.org). This tell us he is a really intelligent person. Due to the facts that all the starting plans for the company are his ideas, and those plans are usually include how to help their company to save the money, or how to find the best partnership during that tough period of time. One thing we need to know that the pressure for Jeff during that time, all the decisions that he made or planed will affect the company’s future. Although in our point of view, the company is just going in a really successful way, but we should all know that the reason why company will be such successful is because of the ideas that Jeff came out with! If you really think about Jeff we found out that he is not only very intelligent, but also a very careful person.

The head of the Cheshire Academy-John D. Nozell said that the reason for him to invite Jeff as the speaker of the commencement is because of the works that Jeff had done to the society should be share with these younger generation(myrecordjournal.com). This is an chance for all the students that study in Cheshire Academy to learn what kinds of attitude should a student have for their college or career, and some tips that will help them to walk on a successful future. While this is not only the opportunity for students to learn some social experience from the elder, but it is the first time for Jeff to return his high school over 50 years (myrecordjournal.com). Maybe until the day come we would ask him that whether the food in the dinning hall is one of the reason why he want to start the ice cream career!

Improve

While the spring coming, the end of the school year is also coming. This mean I already taking writing and comp III for almost one full year, but the biggest question for myself is "Did I really improve my own writing skill?"

This is a very debatable question because I have no idea about it. I should say that I am not sure about the answer for this question. Maybe I did some improvement during the course year. Such as the writing time. Before I took this course, I always spend lots of time n writing a paper, no matter how much is it. After I took Ms.Guarino writing class, I found out that I could write a five hundreds words blog or paper within forty to fifty minutes. This is could not only help me on the school works part, but also train myself to write faster when I do the SAT.

Beside the writing time, I also did some improvements on the paragraph structure. Now when I write, I will be more focus on the sentence structure and the paragraph order. I will make sure that I include my introduction, body, and conclusion in all my writing. Sometimes I will check that did I use the correct sentence structure, or I should change the order or the tense...etc. I think this is defiantly something I change during the course year.

These two are the biggest changes I have over the course year, but there are still a lot of things that wait for me to learn it. This mean I shouldn't stop right now, keep working and be possitive for the up coming challenges!

Re-paraphrase

1. According to the CA homepage, " CA is a college-preparatory school". The way to prepare for college is to "challenge its students"(Cheshire Homepage)

2. CA is an academically rigorous high school, and their purpose is to let students prepare for college by challenges them.(Cheshire Homepage)

Fighting!

From the hot weather we can guess that summer is getting closer, and that also mean only one more month until summer vacation! Summer vacation is the longest vacation that every students have during the year. Students will usually use that period of time to hang out with their friends. Maybe they will go to eat lunch together, watch a movie, or do some exercise...etc. However, did you know how to ask your friends to go out in Korean? Today’s lesson will be the sentences that Korean will say to ask their friends to go out.

The first sentence we are going to learn is “뭐해?”(Mwo-Hae), which mean “What are you doing?” in English. If we want to say it in polite way it will be “뭐하세요”(Mwo-Ha-Se-Yo). People always start the conversation with “Hello?” or “What are you doing?”. I don’t know that did we must start the conversation with these two sentences, but sometimes there are nothing in my mind that could start the conversation. Think about it, you could use “What are you doing?” to easily start the conversation without offend somebody, and in the same time, it helps us to understand how is he doing recently. Such as if the person answer with a normal tone, we can guess that he/she did have a normal life. If one person answer with a sad tone, we can guess that he/she might be in a bad mood because of something. Asking your friends “What are you doing?” could not only help you to say hi without saying the word “Hi!”, but also help you to understand how are them. Doesn't you think this is very convenient?

After we know how are they doing, we would like to ask them “Did you want to go?”. To say that in Korean is “배고파?”(Bae-Go-Pa), and in polite way it will be “배고파요?” (Bae-Go-Pa-Yo). Usually after we know how are they doing, we will ask our friends that did they want to go out. It could be go to having lunch, watching movie, or doing exercise. We won’t ask what did they want to do, but just go out. This is quite strange but really true, because this is just what all the people did. They will only think what should they do after they get out. Don’t feel strange on it because I believe this is something you will do.

Today we learn two different sentences that we could use during the summer vacation: “뭐해?” and “배고파?”. Both of them are really common sentences that people will use in their daily life, no matter you are a student or a worker. Anyway, know what it is mean is not enough. You should always practice these sentences in order to get familiar with it. As long you practice every day, you will getting better on it. No longer you will be able to speak Korean perfectly and you will have the ability to communicate with real Korean. Let us keep practice until the day come! 가자!
